How does a lack of sleep make us so emotional and hyperactive?


Sleep provides a sort of emotional convalescence, so that we can relax and recover


The amygdala is one of the centerpiece regions for strong emotional reactions, and when people have a restless night or do not sleep at all, this area of the brian becomes very sensitive.


There’s also a strong connection between the prefrontal cortex, which is the area of the brain that provides the logical decision making capability, and the amygdala.
